HR Professional Finalists
The Award for Professional Excellence in Human Resources Management, sponsored by Ogletree Deakins, recognizes creative approaches and consistently high performance that benefits the nominee’s company or organization and the business and professional community. This annual award is a joint venture of the SC Chamber of Commerce and the South Carolina State Council/Society for Human Resource Management.
We are pleased to announce the following finalists for 2016:
Ms. Carolyn Cloud, PHR, SHRM-CP, Human Resources Coordinator, Chemtrade
Carolyn Johnson Cloud is a Human Resources Coordinator at Chemtrade Performance Chemical. Her career as an HR Professional began on June 1, 1999. Prior to June 1st, she held multiple positions at the same company while she was working her way up. Thirty years later, she’s still doing what she loves, being an HR Professional as well as the Training Coordinator and ISO 9001 Internal Auditor. During Carolyn’s career, she has received multiple certifications, nominations and awards of which she is extremely grateful. Carolyn is married to Robert L. Cloud. They have 4 daughters and 7 grandchildren.
Mrs. Joyce Hill, PHR, Assistant Manager of Associate Development, Honda of South Carolina
Joyce Hill is the head of the Associate Development department for Honda of South Carolina. She is presently the Chairperson of the Workforce Development Board for the Pee Dee region. Joyce was the past President of the South Carolina Association for Community Education, the past South Carolina representative for the National Community Education Association, and the recipient of the Professional Service Award from the South Carolina Association for Community Education. She is consistently challenged to find solutions outside of the box when it comes to increasing skills for individuals. She is married to Bobby Hill and they have two sons, Robby and Ryan, and one grandson, Hayden.
Mr. Keith Schnulle, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CHRE, Area Director of Human Resources, Wild Dunes Resort
Born and raised in the Chicago area, Keith moved to Florida in 1984 to work for Marriott Hotels at the Tampa Westshore Marriott. He worked for three major hotel companies during his career; Marriott for eighteen years, Benchmark Hospitality for four years and Destination Hotels for nine years. Keith has worked at thirteen hotels/resorts in eight states during his tenure, from 310 rooms to 2000 rooms at the Marriott Orlando World Center. While working for Destination Hotels, Keith received the 2013 Chief Talent Development Officer Award, 2014 Human Resource Keeper of the Culture Award, 2014 Spirit of Lowe Award and 2015 Human Resources People Choice Award. Keith was selected as vice President of Human Resources for the French Lick Resort and Casino and the West Baden Hotel. Keith is married to his wife of 44 years, Debbie, they have a daughter, Rebecca, and a son, Ryan.
Ms. Sharon Sellers, SPHR, GPHR, SHRM-SCP, President, SLS Consulting, LLC
Sharon Sellers has thirty years’ experience as a senior Human Resources generalist. As an HR executive, she directed the HR functions for corporations covering the medical, manufacturing, government contracting and service industries. Through her consulting firm, her clients range from local start-up companies to global enterprises in all major industries. SLS serves clients in the United States, the European Union, Asia and the United Kingdom. She holds the certifications of SHRM-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Senior Professional in HR (SPHR), and Global Professional in HR (GPHR). Her specialties include performing HR assessments and compliance audits, conducting employee surveys, performing supervisory training, anti-harassment (including sexual harassment) training, compensation management, and assisting start-ups with establishing U.S. -compliant policies and procedures, providing HR outsourcing consultants to small and foreign-owned U.S. companies. Sharon is active in the Society of HR Management (SHRM) and is a member of the 2016 SHRM Membership Advisory Council (MAC). She was the 2014-2015 Director of the South Carolina SHRM State Council and the 2010-2011 President of Tri-County HR Management Association (TCHRMA), the Charleston, SC area SHRM chapter. She holds a BS in Psychology and a MA in Management.
Mrs. Karen Smith, PHR, SHRM-CP, Human Resources/Risk Manager, Gallman Personnel Services, Inc.
Karen Bedenbaugh Smith, SHRM-SP, PHR, CSP has been employed with Gallman Personnel Services, Inc. as Human Resources/Risk Manager for over 17 years. Karen handles all HR functions for the office staff and workers compensation, labor and employment issues for the entire organization. A graduate of Winthrop University, she has more than 27 years of HR experience in manufacturing, trucking and staffing. Currently serving as Conference Exhibitor Director on the SC SHRM Board, she has been on the board several years and served on the Columbia SHRM board for 12 years in a variety of roles. Karen has earned her Professional in Human Resources, Society for Human Resource Management – Certified Professional, Certified Staffing Professional, Principals in Occupational Safety and Health, and 10-hour OSHA certifications. Karen is married to Charles Smith and they have two children, Andrew and Alexandra.
Ms. Sharon Wilcox, PHR, SHRM-CP, Administrator Employee Relations, Santee Cooper
Sharon is the Director of Employee Relations and Activities for Santee Cooper where she is a contributor to Santee Cooper winning the Alfred P. Sloan Award for three years. She has also ensured Santee Cooper’s corporate picnics were ready for the 1,700 employees and their families for over 10 years. Sharon is also the published author of Coaching Perspectives II. Sharon has two children; a son, Alex, and a daughter, Sarah.
The awards luncheon, sponsored by Fisher & Phillips, will be held at the 26th Annual Human Resources Conference on May 12, 2016 at the Hilton Head Marriott Resort and Spa. Recognition of all finalists and the announcement of the winner will take place during this time.
