Pitts: Scott Garrett Wrong Choice to Lead Ex-Im
November 1, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ted Pitts released the statement below following today’s Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs hearing on Scott Garrett's nomination to be President of the Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank:
"Scott Garrett today said he would support a fully functioning Ex-Im Bank. Unfortunately, Mr. Garrett’s statements do not align with his actions – he spent years trying to dismantle the Bank and voted time and again to destroy it. Because the Ex-Im Bank supports more than 17,000 jobs in South Carolina, our workers can’t afford to allow Scott Garrett to lead such a critical institution.
Garrett’s well documented record over many years shows his opposition to the Ex-Im Bank and the manufacturing jobs that the agency supports. He demonstrated in his hearing yet again that he is the wrong choice for South Carolina workers, and we urge Senators Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham to oppose Garrett's nomination."
