S.C. Chamber Endorses House Infrastructure Bill
January 19, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce is endorsing H.3516, the infrastructure legislation filed by House Majority Leader, Representative Gary Simrill, and others in the South Carolina House of Representatives yesterday.
Steps taken by the General Assembly in recent years to provide one time funding were important, but we know we can’t wait any longer to pass a long-term, sustainable solution. It’s a fact that our roads and bridges rank among the worst in the country, and it affects every South Carolinian, business, and job creator in our state.
S.C. Chamber CEO Ted Pitts said, “This is the type of comprehensive infrastructure plan that South Carolina’s residents, workers and businesses need our policy makers to implement. This funding proposal diversifies the sources of revenue, provides a long-term sustainable solution, and adequately captures out of state trucks and motorists who use our roads. It does all this in a responsible, phased in approach. It’s time to finish the job on roads and pass H.3516.”
