SC Chamber Hosts Roundtable on Trade in the EU

October 19, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the SC Department of Commerce and the US Department of Commerce-US Commercial Service, today hosted a business roundtable on trade inside the European Union. Congressman Joe Wilson and special guest European Union Ambassador to the US David O’Sullivan spoke at the event, which also featured a Q&A session.

“The business community is proud to host Congressman Wilson and Ambassador O’Sullivan today” said South Carolina Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Ted Pitts. “Trade is an integral part of South Carolina’s economy and we value our European partners. South Carolina manufacturers lead the way when it comes to exports, and strong ties across the Atlantic benefit us all.”

“We have a globally-connected economy in South Carolina, and that’s certainly evidenced by our strong relationship with the European Union (EU),” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt. “Since 2011, companies based in the EU have announced more than $9.2 billion in capital investment and the creation of 22,500 new jobs in our state. So, as we move forward, maintaining and strengthening the partnerships we have with our friends in Europe will be critical to future economic success in South Carolina.”

Today’s event featured presentations by the SC Department of Commerce and the US Department of Commerce-US Commercial Service, as well as a roundtable discussion with business leaders, Congressman Joe Wilson, and EU Ambassador to the US David O’Sullivan.
