S.C. Chamber Statement On Final Roads Package
June 1, 2016
COLUMBIA, S.C. – State Chamber President Ted Pitts today released the following statement after the House concurred to the Senate’s amendment to S.1258. Passed with just one day left in the 2016 legislative session, the bill enacts the reforms at DOT and the STIB that the business community has called for, and also allocates much-needed resources to our state’s roads and bridges.
“From day one, The Chamber has called on our state’s leaders to make roads a top priority and today we are pleased to see that the General Assembly has passed an infrastructure bill that moves our state forward. S.1258 is a big step in the right direction toward fixing our state’s roads and bridges by providing dedicated revenue streams, reforming DOT, improving the STIB process, and allocating resources to begin to bring South Carolina’s roads out of the disrepair that has hindered commerce and jeopardized the safety of our citizens for too long.
“The Chamber applauds the General Assembly for the progress we have seen today with the passage of S.1258. We will continue the work with our state’s leaders to find the long-term solution South Carolinians deserve.”
