COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce hosted a conference call with US Senator Tim Scott today to discuss the work being done in Washington for South Carolina businesses. Senator Scott answered questions on many issues including the benefits of recently passed tax reform, the future of the Export-Import Bank, what’s next for health care reform, immigration issues and other topics of interest for businesses.
“The state’s job creators want nothing more than a federal government that listens and understands what it takes to grow the economy. The dialogue today was good. Senator Scott gets it” said Jack Sanders, President & CEO of Sonoco.
“Collaboration and partnership between the public and private sector in South Carolina is key to driving economic growth in our state,” said Joan Robinson-Berry, Vice President and General Manager of Boeing South Carolina. “South Carolina manufacturers like Boeing commend organizations like the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and leaders like Senator Scott who advocate for policies at the local, state and federal level that directly impact Palmetto State workers.”
“Most American jobs are created by small and mid-size companies and our South Carolina companies are likely to respond positively to the recent tax changes by making new investments in capital equipment and jobs” said Mike Brenan, State President – SC Region of BB&T. “Lower unemployment and a robust economy are the best conditions for opportunity and happiness. Senator Scott continues to be a strong voice for economic growth and prosperity in South Carolina and the nation.”
“Having run a small business himself, Senator Scott has always been very interested in how legislation coming out of Washington affects the small businesses of South Carolina, and he is a strong advocate working hard to ensure opportunities for small business success and growth are protected. We are very lucky to have Senator Scott representing us” said Steve Spinks, CEO of The SPINX Company.
“Today’s call allowed our members to speak directly with Senator Scott as part of an ongoing dialogue between the business community and South Carolina’s leaders in Washington” said SC Chamber President & CEO Ted Pitts. “I can tell you one thing, Senator Scott’s leadership in DC is appreciated by South Carolina businesses. Today’s call with businesses was a candid conversation about work that is being done and some of the challenges the country faces.”
“Thank you to the business community” said Senator Tim Scott. “At the end of the day when I think of the business community what I’m thinking about are families and individuals whose livelihoods depend on the success of your efforts. I’m thankful to live in a state where businesses are committed to making sure that our families and individuals in this state continue to see growth in their economy and growth in their paychecks.”
