South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Announces Award Winners At Annual Gala

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce announced recipients of awards at the annual Palmetto Vision Awards Gala held on Thursday, September 10. Awards were given to those South Carolina companies that have excelled in manufacturing and workplace diversity. Additionally, the Human Resources Professional of the Year recognition and a special award for Excellence in Community Diversity were given. The awardees are vetted and chosen by steering committees for Manufacturing, Human Resources, and Diversity, and the South Carolina SCHRM State Council.

The Manufacturer of the Year award recognizes companies for their excellence in manufacturing. Criteria considered in selecting the winners included quality improvements, quality of life, environmental stewardship, community professional involvement, economic development, and education and workforce development.

The Excellence in Workplace Diversity award recognizes companies for their significant contributions to the advancement of South Carolina through diversity initiatives and inclusion efforts. Criteria considered in selecting the winners included diversity initiatives, effectiveness, and applicability.

The Human Resources Professional of the Year award is given to an individual in the human resources field who has made significant contributions to both their organization and the community.

The special presentation of the Excellence in Community Diversity is given to the Emanuel A.M.E. church in Charleston. This award is usually given to an individual who has been dedicated to the betterment of their community, but this year’s award recognizes the entire Emanuel A.M.E. church congregation for their leadership during the most trying time for Charleston and for our state.

South Carolina Chamber President Ted Pitts said, “We all know that South Carolina is a great place to live and work, and the people who were recognized are a large part of the reason why. From individuals to companies to churches throughout the state working to make our community stronger, we are pleased to recognize these individuals and groups who have done so much to move us forward.”

Manufacturer of the Year:

T&S Brass and Bronze Works Inc.  (small/midsize company)

Excellence in Workplace Diversity:

Google South Carolina (large company)

Starbucks Coffee Company – Sandy Run Roasting Plant (small/midsize company)

Human Resources Professional of the Year:

Tanya Weldon, MHRD, PHR, Gildan Usa, Inc

Special Award: Excellence in Community Diversity:

Emanuel AME Church, Charleston, S.C.
