Note from SC Trucking Association CEO: SC DMV Implements HME Extension

In the SC DMV April 3 Update #2 to “Extensions to SCDMV Document Expirations,” they have accepted DHS’s TSA granting of authority that permits State licensing entities (SCDMV) to grant an up to a 180-day extension on a Hazardous Materials Endorsement (HME) security threat assessment (STA) for drivers whose HMEs expired or would otherwise expire between March 1, 2020, and the end date of the TSA exemption.

The SCDMV’s April 3 update by SCDMV ED Kevin Shwedo puts into place assistance for SC’s citizens that extends the expiration dates for CDL HME endorsements that expired or would otherwise expire between March 1, 2020, and June 30, 2020. So they will be valid until July 1, 2020.

As a reminder, drivers with an expired HME must initiate the process of renewing his or her STA for an HME no later than 60 days before the end of the State-granted extension.
