Education & Economic Development Act

Personal Pathways to Success, the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA), combines high academic standards with career exploration while giving students the guidance and experience they need to take full advantage of real opportunities in South Carolina.

Personal Pathways to Success aims to connect business and education, ultimately connecting them to economic development. It provides students with the opportunity to learn about careers by following a progression of activities and courses designed to focus on:

Career awareness (K-5)
Exploration (Middle School)
Preparation (High School and Postsecondary)

In the eighth grade, students and their parents or guardians sit down with counselors to create Individual Graduation Plans (IGP) that specify:

Cluster choices
Majors
Postsecondary goals
High school courses
Out of class learning experiences
Overall career and education goals

Personal Pathways was developed to provide seamless transitions to postsecondary education by establishing articulation agreements among South Carolina high schools, two-year colleges, and four-year colleges.

The Education and Economic Development Act mandates the support of initiative, including:

High Schools That Work (HSTW)
Regional Education Centers (REC)
Individual Attention for Students
Protection Against Tracking

Twelve Regional Education Centers (RECs) across the state coordinate and facilitate the Personal Pathways program. South Carolina’s RECs are pleased to release the Business Connection Handbook, a business guidebook with benefits and steps necessary to connect with local schools.
